About TSG COmmunity Projects

What is TSG Community Projects all about?

After two years, we have finally achieved non-profit status! This means that your donations are tax-deductible!

If you have been following us from the start, you know we are a scrappy shoestring operation. We have been a struggling skateboarding school and skateshop for the past two years, overcoming lots of financial and bureaucratic obstacles. We have done this without loans, grants, or deep pocket savings.

The skate community helped us through the permit process by donating ramps, supplies, cash, and their time with labor and coaching. All of this was done with zero expectation in return. They just did it because of their love for skateboarding, and for wanting to create a channel to bring the skate community together and to help welcome new skaters into the community. We were truly humbled at the outpouring of support that got us started.

In return for support, we have tried our hardest to create events and programs to help the skateboarding and education community as a whole through demos, contests, art nights, collaboration with schools, municipalities, and businesses. We have worked with visually impaired students with the local school district and organizations like Ability Skateboarding out of San Antonio. We have created contests and giveaways at the local municipal skateparks. We hosted booths at HOA's, school carnivals, PTA nights, and career days. We worked with a UTSA student researching skateboarding as an exercise in comparison to traditional fitness programs. All of this we have done out-of-pocket.

One obstacle, however that we consistently ran into was our lack of funds to reach our full potential and make the best of these events and programs. The income from the classes and the skateshop are just not enough to be able to reach our full potential as a community partner. We are now at the point where we will not be able to continue in the same capacity as just a “for-profit” skateshop/school. Becoming a non-profit is pivotal for our future and is the the key to a successful future that ensures putting the community first!

Everyone we have collaborated with has said they would be able to help so much more if we were a non-profit entity, so we thought it only appropriate to become a nonprofit! We decided to create TSG Community Projects to spearhead our outreach to the community. We will still have our skateshop/school serve the local skateboard community with the shop, classes, and private lessons. However, with TSG Community projects, we will be able to do so much more! Here are some of the things we want to do:

1) Open the skate-school facility for free during open skate hours to the public.

2) Give away equipment to those in need.

3) Upgrade our facilities and make the of the highest quality to ensure progression and, most of all, safety.

4) Fund free-to-the-public educational workshops for skateboarding and fitness.

5) Have community art projects as skateboarding and art are deeply intertwined.

In addition, by funding TSG Community Projects, you will support the following:

1) Promoting Physical Fitness: Utilizing skateboarding as a full-body workout that improves balance, coordination, and cardiovascular health.

2) Enhancing Social Skills: Building community through teamwork, mentorship, and support in educational settings.

3) Ensuring Accessibility: Guaranteeing that skateboarding is an adaptive activity accessible to all students, regardless of body type or equipment availability. We provide equipment and access to all; especially underserved communities and individuals.

Help TSG Community Projects launch into action by donating now and into the future!
